My Philosophy

SKILLS AND RELATIONSHIPS
MUSIC BUILDS IMPORTANT PERSONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS THAT CAN SOMETIMES BE USEFUL IN OTHER CLASSROOMS, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY THESE SKILLS AND QUALITIES ARE LIFELONG BENEFITS TO HAVE, APPLICABLE TO MANY SITUATIONS.  STUDYING MUSIC GIVES STUDENTS THE SKILLS THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL, INTELLIGIBLE, AND COMPATIBLE HUMAN BEINGS, WHETHER IT BE IN MUSIC OR OTHERWISE.
MUSIC BRINGS STUDENTS INTO A SETTING WHERE THEY MUST LEARN TO WORK TOGETHER, SO TEAMWORK IS A MUST-LEARN SKILL.  WHETHER SINGING AS A GROUP IN GENERAL MUSIC CLASS, OR PERFORMING THE SHOSTAKOVITCH 5TH SYMPHONY, STUDENTS NEED TO FOCUS ON WHAT THE PERSON NEXT TO THEM IS DOING, AND WHAT THE CONDUCTOR IS ASKING FOR.  LEARNING TO TAKE CRITICISM, TO HELP ASSIST OR DIRECT OTHERS, TO PLAY IN TUNE AND IN TIME WITH THE ENSEMBLE, AND TO MOVE AS A UNIT TO GET THINGS DONE, IS AN IMPORTANT QUALITY TO HAVE THAT WILL MAKE VALUABLE FUTURE TEAM MEMBERS IN THE JOB MARKET LATER IN LIFE.

Be Cheerful.
Strive to be Happy.
